The Employer Search Tool helps you find and engage the right employers for your learners' placements, and add them straight into your college's employer database. To support you in maximising the opportunity of getting your chosen employers to work with you, this guide shares best practice on employer engagement.
What the Employer Search Tool lets you do
- Search for all UK registered companies.
- Search by location and distance from your setting.
- Search by sector and target specific industries.
- View information on the directors at a company.
- View financial information to start assessing company viability.
- Easily add new companies to your college's employer database.
How to use the tool
- Open the tool. Access the Employer Search Tool via the Employer Module, then click Start to launch it.
- Set your location. You'll first be asked to fill in a valid UK postcode and define your search radius using the drop-down provided.
- Refine your search. Specify the industry sector. You will need to choose a Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary sector from the drop-downs, then click Add Sector. You can add an unlimited number of sectors to your search.
- Review the results. You'll be presented with all employer organisations that match your industry and radius search. You can view the results as a list view or as a map view.
- Plan your route. Clicking Google Maps directions lets you easily plan routes to and from the employer organisation.
- View employer details. Clicking View employer details lets you view the names of the directors at the organisation stored against Companies House.

- Company status
- Date of incorporation
- Nature of business (SIC)

Adding an employer to Navigate
Clicking Add new Employer Record will automatically pre-populate an employer record on Navigate and save the new employer organisation into your Navigate site. In future, you can simply search for the employer in your Employers module to find them again.
